The summer top in lacy crochet is easy to adjust to different sizes and also to lengths. The tops are cotton and cool for the summer days.
We alternate rows of small dainty flowers and my favourite stitch, the V-stitch. Crocheting the top starts from the waist, in the round. When the sleeves start, we crochet the front and back separately.
You need six 50 gram (about 2 oz) balls of mercerized cotton for a short top in a small size. I used crochet hooks 3 mm and 3.5 mm because the two tops are not in the same yarn.
Here’s a close-up of the stitches.
I’m happy that two of my daughters agreed to model the tops! The photos of Yasmin wearing the yellow top were taken at the Naantali Marina. Sharon is wearing the taupe coloured top. Her photos were taken in the cute historical ironworks village of Teijo. Both are in Southwest Finland by the sea. See also more photos on Instagram!
Instructions for crocheting the top are on a step by step video. The video has clearly marked chapters so you always find the different parts of the work easily.
Tip: The same lace crochet would look great in a summer tote bag or table runner!
